Batangas Varsitarian Fraternity BV 1974 History, Tenets, Principles, Passwords and Codes
Batangas Varsitarian (BV), is a fraternity established in the Philippines. Its members call themselves Varsitarians.
Batangas Varsitarian is an exclusive Batangueno college and community fraternity, operating chapters in more than 60 colleges and universities, community chapters in Batangas, Laguna, Cavite and Manila, Alumni Associations, and International Chapters in ten countries. Founded in 1974, BV Fraternity has thousands of alumni working as a professionals and businessman all over the world. BV is a Batangueno Fraternity and Sorority open to all who are willing to espouse its values and missions.
History
Year 1950s to 1970s
Batangas Varsitarian, was founded September 21, 1974 in Far Eastern University in Manila, commonly known as BV, traced its roots from a humble beginning of a simple campus organization of young Batangueno students called "The Batangas Varsitarians" formed in several universities in Manila circa 1950s and 1960s along with other students coming from other provinces who formed other Varsitarians organization according to their origin of provinces.
The word Varsitarian was a generic name for all provincial youth student's organization at that time in Manila Universities and Colleges. It was later dissolve and disbanded during the time of Martial Law and reemerged as Fraternity from the only existing Batangas Varsitarian campus organization all over Manila Universities in Far Eastern University September 21, 1974. In the year 1973, then House Speaker Jose B. Laurel Jr. summoned Brod Ricky Lontok and they talked about the future of Batangueno students in Manila amidst Martial Law Situation at that time.
Year 1980s to 2000s
On the other hand, in the year 1978, Brod Do Mitra of National University Chapter brought the BV in Lipa City Colleges (LCC) and together with Brod Max Dela Pena, organized and established the first Batangas Varsitarian Chapter in the province of Batangas. In the same year 1978, members from the newly found chapter of LCC spearheaded by Brod Pilo Morada organized and helped establish the second Chapter on BV in the province, the BV Western Philippine Colleges Chapter ("now is University of Batangas). Finally, all BV Chapters in Manila was consolidated and united under the "National Council of Batangas Varsitarian (NCBV)" in 1982. The First Adviser of the NCBV was the former Vice President of the Philippines in 1986, Salvador "Doy" Laurel.
In the year 1986, after 10 years after the founding of the first founding chapter in Lipa City, the first "Provincial Council of Batangas Varsitarian (PCBV)"" was established in Batangas City and formed to administer the growing numbers of BV membership in Provincial Colleges and Communities. However, Manila BV Chapters suffered from great decline in membership due to the dramatic decline of Batangueno youth students enrollment in Manila Universities. In contrast, unregulated community membership in the province surged. In the year 2007, due to these alarming organizational situations, BV alumni from Manila Chapters gathered, formed, and established the First BV Alumni Association, the "Batangas Varsitarian Alumni Association (BVAA)" with objective of consolidating alumni members to help the helpless members and become a socio-civic oriented association. in the year 2009, the BVAA formed and established the "Batangas Varsitarian Supreme Council (BVSC)" to serve as the highest governing body of all BV organs with the purpose of governing the active membership and manage all local and international councils to re-educate and re-orient members and rectify the errors of the past.
BVAA and BVSC was registered in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and was given mandate on the First Batangas Varsitarian National Convention in the year 2009.
