NYC Anarchist gets time served for firebombing a police car while trying to create terrorist organization modeled after ISIS - Sam Resto

Sam Resto planned to create 'Geronimo' a terrorist organization that initiated members by having them firebomb police cars until he was arrested for firebombing a police car. Despite these facts he escaped a terrorism enhancement and was sentenced to just time served (26 months) for his terror campaign

As many of the 2020 riot federal cases have come to a close, one case flew heavily under the radar, with no news outlets covering it. Sam Resto, a New York City anarchist and BLM supporter was arrested on August 13th 2020 for the arson of a NYPD police vehicle. The case on the surface wasn't that unusual from a laundry list of other BLM/Antifa arson cases such as the NYC Corey Smith and Elaine Carberry case, however the case was for more extreme in its plotting for terrorism, despite this Sam Resto escaped a terrorism enhancement and recieved only 26 months (time served) in prison.

Escalating extremism

The documented criminal behavior from Sam Resto starts with lower level vandalism during the 2020 Summer George Floyd riots. At some point during the summer an affinity group of extremists that Resto associated with was infiltrated by NYPD. The group had at least 2 NYPD officers infiltrate them, with 3 others besides Resto being referred to as uncharged co-conspirators.

Sam Resto's first known act was vandalizing the George Washington Statue on the Washington Square Park Arch with red paint. The 'red paint' style vandalism was a frequently done as a way of representing "blood on your hands" style messaging.

Following this his desire for illegal actions grew, going to a "Occupy City Hall" demonstration. The Occupy City Hall was NYC BLM/Antifa's attempt at 'Autonomous Zone' style area modeled after the CHAZ/CHOP, and was even given the name “City Hall Autonomous Zone”. The zone didn't grow or have the police capitulate like Seattle so it didn't last long.

Resto came to the City Hall zone with a plan to destroy a Christopher Columbus statue in a "high risk direct action" that would include him using lasers and paintball guns to shoot out cameras. He also expressed in interest in using smoke bombs, thermite, and propane torches or the direct action. However during his scouting of the Central Park and the Christopher Columbus statue he found the NYPD protecting the statue, a frequent target of Antifa/BLM. This discouraged Resto from the plot, and he started plotting arson attacks targeting the park itself, the police, and police vehicles.

Following the Christopher Columbus statue failure, Resto made his first move toward arson. Buying a gas can at a July 12 Bay Ridge protest. However after pouring the gas into bottles to attack an unguarded NYPD vehicle, uniformed police arrived prohibiting this. Resto set a trash can on fire later in the demonstration as a consolation.

Several days later on the 15th Resto was involved in a protest on the Brooklyn Bridge that turned violent. The protest turned violent riot left multiple NYPD officers bloody and got a significant amount of media coverage. Resto was arrested at the demonstration and after being released wanted to set fire to a police car in retaliation.

Two days after the arrest Resto spray painted a police van with “don’t start this car” and “kaboom” with an Anarchist 'A' in an apparent bomb threat. The acts and plotting escalated with plans for caltrops, shooting at federal officers, and sharing guides for making explosives as part of his direct action.

Arson

On the night of July 28th Sam Resto took the leap from violent plots and vandalism to arson. He purchased a gasoline and brought it to a protest near Gracie Mansion. He split the gasoline into smaller bottles and distributed them to several others. Resto identified a NYPD car to target, and despite 3 people telling him it was a bad idea, carried out the attack.

Resto was ecastic about his firebombing, describing himself as "an expert pyromaniac" and that he was "ready for round two". The firebombing left the vehicle a complete loss.

Arrest

While police were aware of Resto, having infiltrated the affinity group, they were investigating the larger group with him and did not make an arrest that night. Following the firebombing Resto abandoned his backpack in central park. In the bag they found a Guy Fawkes mask, a hammer, lighters, and a gas can covered in his fingerprints.

Resto started to express concerns over being caught due to fingerprints being on the gas can. He plotted moving apartments and thought for someone to take tools including a crossbow and paintball gun he had purchased for other plots. In all of this concern, he never showed any remorse stating again that he wanted people to know the arson attack was "the movement fucking them up".

On August 13th Resto was arrested at his place of employment, where he was located hiding under his desk. He sent out a quick text to his affinity group saying "cops at my job everybody run". Resto appeared very ready to run, having his passport in his bag. Police further found he had spray painted "too late" on his apartment wall.

Resto was charged federally with arson, conspiracy, and civil disorder charges. He was denied bail on account of his danger to the community and clear risk of flight.

Geronimo

Later in his spree of arson and crime Resto started plotting at a more organized structure to carry out acts. He shared this plan with members of his affinity group. The organization would be modeled after ISIS to have a media, finance, propaganda, and intelligence wing with cell groups across all five boroughs on NYC.

Each of the 5 cells groups would leader, safe houses, and carry out different 'direct actions' including arson attacks, statue pullovers, and Minneapolis style "precinct takeovers". The planned initiation process for those involved would be to do what Resto had done, firebomb a police car.

The planned organization had significant time and thought put into it. Resto even took the time to put together network diagrams of organizational structure. Listing out other planned organization rules such as using burner phones, not using real names, and not doing jail support because "revolution requires sacrifices"

Sentencing

Sam Resto eventually pled guilty on June 24th 2022. On November 4th 2022 he was sentenced. Despite the extreme nature of his offenses, the Government (Eastern District of NY USAO) wanted only 48-72 months, while Resto wanted time served which was roughly 26 months at that point.

The judgment for that sentencing is not public currently. He's not in the BOP lookup, meaning that the sentence he was asking for (time served) appears to have been granted. In addition to this the Eastern District of New York USAO didn't put out any press releases on the case apart from the initial arrest release. No local/national news outlets covered it either.

Update

About a week after we posted about this in a Twitter thread about a judgment was finally filed. We can 100% confirm now he got time served (26 months). He will also do 3 years probation and pay 14k in restitution. There's no indication on why it took 3 months to file a judgment. Typically this done the same day as sentencing, with an occasional 2-3 day delay in some districts.

A glimpse into the underworld brutality of white supremacy gangs came this week when a member of the Oregon-based “Krude Rude Brood” was sentenced to 55 years in prison.

David Ray Bartol, 45, was sentenced for “horrifically torturing” two fellow members of the white supremacist gang in 2012 and 2013, the Oregonian reported.

In the first case, Bartol used an “industrial belt sander” in an attempt to remove a tattoo from a fellow gang member who apparently had failed to follow orders or was suspected of being a police informant.

After the sander-torture, Bartol and an accomplice placed a motorcycle helmet on their victim before firing a bullet at his head at close range and injecting heroin into his neck.

When he was no longer breathing, the victim was dumped on a Portland street, wearing only his underwear. He survived the vicious December 2012 assault, the newspaper reported.

Two months later, Bartol and others kidnapped another man and tortured him in a spray-paint booth of an auto body shop – the site chosen apparently to contain the victim’s blood.

The unconscious victim – with injuries that included two gunshot wounds to the abdomen – was dumped in southeast Portland. He survived months of painful recovery, but was found dead of a heroin overdose in February 2015, the newspaper reported.

The brutal assaults and other crimes led in 2013 to a massive, multi-agency investigation in Oregon, code-named “Operation White Christmas,” that dug into links between white supremacists and outlaw motorcycle gangs. Ultimately, almost 60 arrests were made, leading to assorted charges in state and federal court.

The Oregon investigation focused on these street and prison white supremacist gangs – European Kindred (EK); Krude Rude Brood; All Ona B—- (AOB); Fat B—- Killers (FBK) and Insane Peckerwood Syndicate (IPS), authorities have told Hatewatch.

The investigation also probed the connections between those white supremacy gangs and associates of the Gypsy Jokers outlaw motorcycle gang whose members were suspected of involvement in firearms and drug trafficking.

The Bartol prosecution was one of the highest-profile cases.

Bartol was found guilty by a Portland jury this summer of involvement in both assaults as well as 22 other counts. His defense attorneys argued that Bartol, who has been in and out of prison since he was 15, has impulse control issues and a below-average IQ caused by fetal alcohol syndrome.

The Krude Rude Brood gang member chose not to address Multnomah County Circuit Judge Michael Greenlick, who imposed the 55-year sentence on Tuesday.

His new prison term will be served consecutive to an 18-year sentence Bartol already is serving for two home-invasion robberies he carried out in Salem, Ore., south of Portland, after the two tortures. During one robbery, Bartol shot a man in the chest. In the second, he pointed a gun at the victim’s forehead and “asked him if he wanted to die seconds before police arrived,” the newspaper reported.

But Bartol’s courtroom days aren’t over yet.

He faces trial later this month and the possibility of the death penalty if found guilty of aggravated murder for the death of another inmate at the Marion County Jail in Salem in June 2013. Bartol is accused of using a deputy’s flashlight to hit the inmate on the head before repeatedly pounding a shank into the victim’s left eye, killing him.

A mass shooting late Saturday night has left one dead and five injured after Portland-area Antifa held a gathering in solidarity with Amir Locke, a 22-year-old black man who was shot by police in Minneapolis earlier this month.

A woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two men and three women were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the New York Times. Two suspects are reportedly in custody in response to the shooting, according to KPTV.

The shooting occurred at around 8 pm near Normandale Park.

Tweets from Antifa members and groups told far-left comrades that were present not to talk to police investigating the shooting, to delete evidence posted on social media, and to keep posts including photos, videos, and first-hand accounts related to the incident to a minimum “so that you don’t receive a knock.”

Antifa “journalist” Melissa Lewis, who was a co-plaintiff in a failed frivolous “Antifa troll” lawsuit filed in federal court against The Post Millennial‘s editor-at-large Andy Ngo, said that “[o]ne of us got a chunk of the shooter.”

Antifa Hailley Nolan hijacked a Portland Police news conference the next morning and in an incoherent rant, blamed cops for the dead woman and the others who were wounded. The woman, Hailley Nolan breathlessly claimed that white supremacist cops are sending Gypsy Joker motorcycle club members to snatch Antifa members.

“They are sending Gypsy Jokers to kidnap us. They are sanctioning this violence against us. We are dying. We are trying to peacefully protest and they are killing us. And I want to know if any of you care. I want to know if Ted Wheeler cares.”

Last week we told you how Anonymous drew a line-in-the-sand ultimatum, threatening to go public with the identities of local police, journalists, taxi drivers and other allies who conspire with Los Zetas if the cartel didn't release a kidnapped Anonymous member.

Though Anonymous apparently called off their Operation Cartel (#OpCartel) after Los Zetas allegedly returned the kidnapped victim, Brown has decided to flee his Dallas home over concerns for his security. On Nov. 8, he tweeted, "I've got ex-military people releasing info on me and family. Have to leave Texas."

According to a tweet, members of #OccupyDC picked up the tab for a plane ticket to New York City after Brown tweeted "Anyone who can buy me ticket to NYC/Boston and have me pay them back in month, let me know. Transistor@hushmail.com. Home no longer secure."

Perhaps fleeing to more northern exposures was a good move for Brown - especially after a Mexican man was found decapited and dumped in the town of Nuevo Laredo, one mile from the Texas border. The man's hands were handcuffed behind his back, his body and head publicly strewn on a bloody sheet of canvas scrawled with the message: "Hi I'm ‘Rascatripas' and this happened to me because I didn't understand I shouldn't post things on social networks."

Plans by the hacker collective Anonymous to expose collaborators with Mexico's bloody Zetas drug cartel – a project it dubbed "#OpCartel" – have fallen into disarray, with some retreating from the idea of confronting the killers while others say that the kidnap of an Anonymous hacker, the incident meant to have spawned the scheme, never happened.

The apparent climbdown by the group came as one security company, Stratfor, claimed that the cartel was hiring its own security experts to track the hackers down – which could have resulted in "abduction, injury and death" for anyone it traced.

Back on Saturday, July 16 members of Antifa followed through on vows to try disrupting a gathering at the HonkyTonk Bar in Salem, Oregon. The result of the far-left group’s actions is what some are predicting to be a war between them and several motorcycle clubs throughout Oregon. If that sounds to you like a confrontation which would be wise to back away from, you’re not alone. What happens next could be ugly.

Originally, Antifa groups began rallying members and supporters to join a “counter demonstration” for the “Take Action Tour” event being held at the HonkyTonk Bar. They characterized the venue’s gathering as “racist” and catering to both “fascists” as well as “white supremacists.” That event was marketed by the bar as “Hero Appreciation Day” complete with a dunk tank, bike show, eating contest, live music, bouncy house, family-friendly karaoke, free hot dogs, etc.

 

According to several Twitter posts from accounts journalist Andy Ngo says are Antifa members, the group which confronted them was the Free Souls Motorcycle Club. The one percenter motorcycle club might not have the household brand name of the Hells Angels, however its roots run deep. Founded in Eugene, Oregon in 1968 there’s considerable controversy over the details of its foundation, history, and what its aims are today. Regardless, Antifa seems poised to take it and other one percenter motorcycle clubs on in Oregon, promising for a confrontation like they’ve never seen.

White Rose of the Willamette Valley used its Twitter account to complain after Salem police didn’t protect their fellow Antifa members during the confrontation. It said Free Souls and “other uniformed security” both “attacked and injured community members peacefully protesting” without supplying details or other evidence. Unlawful whatever on Twitter claimed “one of ours” was hospitalized from the fight, retweeting a different person claiming “Salem police literally backed away” when the Free Souls came out to confront them. Another Antifa account proceeded to dox several people involved in the confrontation, tagging their supposed employers as well as releasing other personal details.

It's not like Antifa is unfamiliar with physical confrontation. Per Andy Ngo, one of the organizers of the demonstration at the HonkyTonk Bar was arrested in 2021 after allegedly hitting a female police officer. Ngo claimed another in attendance plead guilty the week before for doing over $164,000 in damages to a courthouse.

Nobody knows for sure what comes next in this feud, but some purported Antifa members took to Twitter to either voice their concern for the group’s trajectory or encourage others to push forward in that direction. One person warned Oregon motorcycle clubs are “highly organised (sic) and relentlessly violent and have vast networks you don’t understand.”

Though some #Antifa members in Portland have been warning their comrades about making a vendetta against motorcycle clubs, others have welcomed the feud & are discussing ways to arm up for "battle."
